Tag: anticipatory grief

Anticipatory grief refers to the grief felt before an expected loss, though for many suicide loss survivors, it describes the retrospective recognition of warning signs and the fear that existed before the death. This type of grief also encompasses the ongoing anxiety about potentially losing other loved ones to suicide, creating a state of hypervigilance and worry. Understanding anticipatory grief helps survivors process both the past (what they sensed or feared before the death) and the future (anxiety about additional losses), recognizing these feelings as normal responses to trauma.
