There is no universal timeline for healing from suicide loss, despite what well-meaning people might suggest or what you might pressure yourself to achieve. Some survivors feel intense acute grief for months while others remain in that space for years. Significant improvement might take years, not weeks or months. Triggers can resurface even decades later. The harmful myth that grief follows predictable stages or should be “resolved” within a certain timeframe creates unnecessary shame and pressure for survivors whose grief doesn’t conform to expected timelines. Trusting your unique process, resisting comparison to others, and rejecting arbitrary expectations about recovery speed honors your individual healing journey.
