Learning to rebuild life and move forward after suicide loss doesn’t mean leaving your loved one behind, forgetting them, or being “over it,” but rather developing capacity to carry grief while also engaging in living. Moving forward involves gradually re-engaging with work, relationships, and activities that bring meaning; creating new identity that includes loss without being entirely defined by it; and building a future that honors both who you lost and your own continued existence. This forward movement often brings guilt, as if living somehow betrays the person who couldn’t. Understanding that moving forward is survival, not betrayal, helps survivors give themselves permission to heal.
