All relationships are affected by suicide loss including marriages and partnerships, friendships, family connections, work relationships, and even relationships with people you haven’t met yet who will know you only as a survivor. Some relationships strengthen through shared grief while others fracture from different grief styles or inability to support you adequately. New relationships might be harder to form or trust. Existing relationships require renegotiation around needs, communication, and expectations. Understanding that changed relationships are normal, that some connections won’t survive this, and that new meaningful relationships remain possible helps survivors navigate their social world after loss.
