International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, observed annually on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, brings together the global community of those who have lost someone to suicide for simultaneous events providing connection, hope, and healing through shared experience and recognition that millions worldwide understand this particular grief. Survivor Day typically includes documentary film screenings that share survivor stories, facilitated discussions where attendees can share their own experiences if comfortable, connection with local and global suicide loss community, and structured space for remembrance, grief processing, and reduction of isolation that characterizes so much of suicide loss. Participating in Survivor Day events whether in person or virtually offers powerful reminder that despite unique individual circumstances of each loss, survivors share common threads of guilt, unanswered questions, complicated grief, and the slow healing journey, creating community with others who truly understand what others cannot and providing annual anchor point of connection, support, and hope.
